Winners of Telenor's 'Peace' competition selected to join Nobel Peace prize ceremony

December 12, 2016- Yangon - Five winning staff members from various Telenor business units, including one from Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”), participated in this year’s Nobel Peace prize ceremony held in Oslo, Norway on 8 to 12 December.



Telenor Group in October organized “What is Peace to You” competition for all of its 12 business units throughout the world. Entries of five staff members from Telenor Myanmar, Telenor Bulgaria, Telenor Denmark, Telenor Pakistan and Digi were selected as the best. The winners participated in a Telenor-supported peace concert held as part of the Nobel Peace prize ceremony.

Saint Yi Htet, senior expert from Telenor’s Learning and Development unit is a winner of the competition. Her inspiring winning submission is as follows - “Peace to me is connecting rural communities in my country, enabling them to experience a world they’ve never had a chance to see before.

“In Telenor Myanmar context, we help others by giving access to communication, opening doors to see the world through internet and empowering the population with digital services. We do that from cities to towns, from towns to villages, and soon we will reach the borders where people never had a chance to see the world before.”

Reflecting her participation in the event Saint Yi Htet said “having opportunity to join an event which is part of Nobel Peace prize ceremony is really very exciting for me. This is a memorable event for my whole life.” Anne Birgitte Kverum, Chief People Officer at Telenor Myanmar said “Telenor has been a long-time and proud sponsor of the Nobel Peace Center, and a global partner to the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. This partnership is something we want our employees to be proud of too. This is the reason we chose employees from the competition to join the event.”
