Telenor's Net Monday focuses on "Safe Internet"

October 31, 2016, Yangon - Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) today held its 29th edition of Net Monday focusing on safe internet education training for young people to help them fully utilize opportunities available via Internet.

About 100 youths and students joined the event, held at Strategy First Institute with the theme on “Stay Safe and Have Fun on Internet”.

“We have experienced the rapid internet usages growth in Myanmar, especially on mobile. While everyone can have benefits on their fingertips using internet, we also have to be aware of having disadvantages of internet if the users do not have proper knowledge. This is why using internet in as safe and responsible way is important for all internet users, especially young people,” said Min Thu, Head of Business Sustainability at Telenor Myanmar.

He added that Telenor Myanmar, and Telenor Lighthouse digital literacy centres have trained over 20,000 people in the safe and responsible use of internet to date. “We will continue to scale this training in the coming months through digital platforms,” Min Thu added.

At the event, the panelists from Telenor Myanmar, Myanmar Computer Professionals Association (MCPA), Myanmar ICT for Development Organizaion (MIDO), and participants discussed about how to stay safe online, best practices on preventing personal data and best approaches for preventing various forms of cyber abuses.

Net Monday is a monthly industry event organized by Telenor Myanmar to promote a rich dialogue on topics relevant to the growing digital and online community in Myanmar. Each event brings together a panel of local and international subject matter experts to discuss and debate specific topics of interest to local programmers, web designers, bloggers, developers, technical experts, and representatives from local or international Internet and technology companies.

Previous Net Monday events were held in a number of different towns across the country, including Magwe, Mawlamyine, Bago, Hmawbi and Yangon.
