February 15, 2016, Yangon – Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) today announced that it will hold its first public special numbers auction that will provide customers with the opportunity to bid for 100 special numbers. Profits gained from this auction will be channelled to fund digital education efforts organised by Myanmar Mobile Education’s (myME) programmes in 2016.
These numbers – with the prefix (0)977 – offers special numbers in popular variations like (0)977 7777777, (0)977 7787777, (0)977 0177777, and others with similar numerical patterns. Reserve bidding prices begin at MMK 3 million for all numbers. The process will be assured by law firm MN Associates and observed by audit firm Deloitte Touche Myanmar Vigour Advisory Ltd.
The auction will take place at the Chatrium Royal Lake Hotel in Yangon on Thursday, 25th February, 2016. Interested bidders may register by sending a request with their name, mailing address, email address, NRC or company details, and bank account details to email@example.com or by calling (0)979 7000097, before February 21th, 2016. Due to seats limitation, Telenor will select and confirm successful participants before the auction event. The company will also hold future auctions in other states and divisions of Myanmar, for which dates and times will be announced in the future.

Promoting Digital Education
“MyME is proactively addressing issues of child labour and out-of-school children by providing free, quality non-formal and vocational education opportunities. Telenor has been partnering with myME to support these efforts since 2014 by providing vocational training for tea-shop children. By end of 2015 more than 900 children were enrolled in the program and will be expanded to more than 1,500 children by end of 2016. Our joint upcoming and newly developed programmes comprise of technology-assisted non-formal and vocational education to out-of-school children in nationwide. We aim to reach over 3,500 students by the end of 2016, and over 20,000 students by the end of 2017,” said Min Thu, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Telenor Myanmar.
While there is no age limitation, this programme is primarily aimed at out-of-school or underprivileged young people. The project will kick off in March this year. The subjects are English, Mathematics, Life Skills and Basic Computer Skills with four levels of qualification. Various initiatives under this project will be implemented through Telenor Light House, myME Chapter and myME Box App. The programme will be delivered only Burmese language initially, will be available in other ethnic languages in 2017 and beyond.
