Telenor strengthens anti-corruption efforts in its supply chain

  • First batch of trainings to reach over 200 supplier staff and entrepreneurs

December 2, 2016, Yangon – Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) has launched a series of training and engagement programmes to strengthen anti-corruption efforts throughout its supply chain in Myanmar.

The first anti-corruption training for trainers was conducted in November for Telenor’s corporate responsibility partners. This first batch of the trainers from Telenor’s partner organizations will complete training their respective staff by mid-December this year.

“Driving awareness and buy in for anti-corruption within our organisation and through our entire supply chain is core to our business sustainability efforts in Myanmar. Telenor is firmly opposed to corruption in all forms and is committed to doing business in accordance with the highest ethical standards. Telenor’s governing framework sets one single standard which shall secure sustainable business activities, regardless of where such activities take place. We have zero tolerance on corruption and bribery, and we work closely with our employees and partners to ensure these principles are practiced in all areas of operations. We are proud to continue driving this anti-corruption training to our suppliers who are critical part of our business cycle,” said Min Thu, Head of Business Sustainability, adding that Telenor will continue more trainings to the suppliers in the future as it is a mandatory for all of Telenor partners to do the business with right ways.

The training and engagement sessions include interactive discussions on different scenarios surrounding anti-corruption, and identifying most appropriate responses that are in line with Telenor’s policy, supplier’s contractual obligations, and localized online anti-corruption material.

No Gift Policy

In May 2016, Telenor introduced a No Gift Policy, which adds to the company’s existing efforts in driving the highest integrity and ethical standards throughout its operations. Under the policy, Telenor and its employees are not allowed to receive gifts from or offer gifts to business partners and external stakeholders. Branded corporate merchandise items and activities related to corporate events is exempted subject to certain criteria being met.

Ethics and transparency central to Telenor’s business

Telenor’s zero tolerance on corruption and ethical standards are set out in its Code of Conduct and in anti-corruption policies. Telenor also requires that suppliers and third parties that have a direct contractual relationship or offer products or services to the company must comply with its Supplier Conduct Principles, which define the minimum standards that Telenor expects to see achieved over time, including on ethics and anti-corruption tests.
