August 19, 2015, Yangon –Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) today announced a new tariff plan that further underscores the company’s commitment to delivering the most affordable voice and data rates for mass market customers in Myanmar.
The new Super Pwarplan, which will be available to all Telenor customers on a subscription basis from August 20,2015, offers the lowest voice rates for all calls made between Telenor subscribers (On-Net), at 18 Kyat/minute.
Rates for calls made from Telenor subscribers to other networks (Off-Net) have also been lowered to 23 Kyat/minute, from the current flat rate of 25 Kyat/minute.
All customers on Super Pwar will by default enjoy Telenor’s Smart Internet data planat 6 Kyat/MB, offering speeds of up to 2 Mbps on Telenor’s 100% 3G network. All other tariffs (such as SMS, IDD, and Roaming) and services (Balance transfer, KyoThone, and MY Tune) remain unchanged.
Telenor’s Chief Executive Officer Petter Furberg says: “Our customers can continue to expect that Telenor will deliver the most affordable voice and data services in Myanmar. We serve more than 10 million customers today, in 12 out of 14 major divisions and states. In the areas where we are already present, almost one in every two mobile users is a Telenor subscriber, and ourSuper Pwar plan now provides them the lowest voice rates in the market todaywhen they call family and friends on our growing network.
“Offering Smart Internet as the default data plan in Super Pwaralso reflects the growing appetite among subscribers for faster data connections.Myanmar is 3rd globally for mobile growth*, and close to 70% of mobile users in Myanmar today are on smartphones. Within our base 55% of our customers are already data users. With this new plan, Telenor’s customers will continue toenjoy good speeds, with among the lowest internet rates, on the fastest growing data network in Myanmar,” Furberg added.
Customers may subscribe to Super Pwarvia SMS by sending the keyword “SUP ON” to 365, through dialing *365*1# for USSD, or by calling Telenor’s call center at (0) 9790097900 (or just 979 for Telenor customers).
Telenor’s My Internet data plan at 5 Kyat/MB will continueto be available on basic tariff plans.
Continued expansion and quality improvements
Telenor today provides mobile connectivity in 12 major divisions and states, namely Mandalay, Yangon, Sagaing, Bago, Magway, Ayeyarwaddy, Kayin, Mon,Kachin, Shan, Kayah, and Thaninthari, and in union territory Nay Pyi Taw. The company has recently announced plans for expansion to Chin and Rakhine states in the coming months.
“Apart from expanding coverage we are also focused on adding capacity and optimising quality in areas where we are already present. We are working hard to improve the quality of our network in the cities: in Yangon we now have more than 811 sites, while in Mandalay we now have 521 sites turned on. In urban areas, we will continue accelerating site density as well as deploying the latest small-cell solutions to complement our traditional network in coming months,” Furberg added.
