Telenor introduces DND – Do Not Disturb Service

  • Allows customers to opt-out of promotional SMS messages

March 1, 2016, Yangon – Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) today introduced “Do Not Disturb” (“DnD”) - a new free service which will allow customers to opt out of receiving targeted promotional text messages (via SMS).

Subscription to DnD will restrict all promotional messages apart from pack renewal and subscription notifications and SMS-based value-added services which have been subscribed by the customer (such as horoscope, news). Customers who wish to unsubscribe to a VAS service are required to send the deactivation keyword to the short-code of the service subscribed to. Those who subscribe will however still receive emergency and national broadcast SMS from government-related institutions.

Customers will be able to subscribe to DND service via SMS by sending “DND ON” to 500. Once successful, they will receive an SMS which says “You are currently subscribed to DND Service.” Customers may also check subscription to DnD by sending an SMS “MY DND” to 500. The service likewise may be unsubscribed from by sending “DND OFF” to 500.

Alternatively, customers may also subscribe by calling Telenor’s call center at (0)979 0097900 – or just “979” for Telenor numbers and making both activation and deactivation requests to the call centre agent. In this event, customers will only pay for the regular call to the call center, but the DND service would be free.
