(YANGON, Myanmar - January 27, 2014) Telenor Myanmar today announced that it is an official partner of the upcoming BarCamp Yangon 2014, a user-generated conference focusing on technology and the Internet. Through its support of BarCamp Yangon, Telenor looks forward to learning more about Myanmar's burgeoning web developer community, including the latest local trends in mobile apps and digital content, and understanding how Telenor can support innovation and talent and bridge that with the mobile communications needs of local consumers.

BarCamp's strong emphasis on Myanmar's growing digital economy, particularly mobile technology and the Internet, is closely aligned with Telenor's goal to enable 'Internet-for-all' in each of the markets where it operates in Asia, including Myanmar. As part of that ambition, Telenor Myanmar is committed to the rapid roll-out of a modern telecommunications network and high-quality services that will deliver the many benefits and opportunities created by accessible and affordable mobile communications to the people of Myanmar.

In addition to bringing advanced mobile communications to Myanmar, Telenor is also committed to contributing to the local economy by promoting a vibrant environment for innovation and talent development, and creating new business opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs. This includes fostering a strong local web developer community through inspiring mobile apps and digital content tailored to local consumers and providing opportunities for collaboration, ultimately driving the shared objective of offering innovative products and services to people across the country.

"Telenor is pleased to be an official sponsor of BarCamp Yangon. Not only is BarCamp an influential gathering for the international technology and developer community, the event has also been successful in bringing together the many experts and innovators that are helping to advance Myanmar's digital economy. Telenor is excited to be a part of this important industry event and to facilitate dialogue and sharing of ideas among the local and international technology community," said Mr. Petter Furberg, Chief Executive Officer, Telenor Myanmar.

Mr. Furberg added, "Telenor believes that mobile connectivity is fundamental for everyone. At a time when mobile and Internet technology is more widely affordable than ever, Myanmar has the opportunity to leverage modern mobile communications technology as a central platform and enabler to its development in many areas including education, healthcare, and banking. As a long-term partner to Myanmar, Telenor is investing in building a great organisation and state-of-the-art telecom infrastructure that is vital for innovation in other key industries and which will help drive the country's development."

BarCamp Yangon 2014 will be held on February 1 and 2 at MICT Park in Yangon.
