Telenor began its support to communities affected by severe flooding across Rakhine since early this month, who have been displaced by flooding triggered by continuous torrential rains.

“Many people are still taking shelter in temporary places and we are providing support in order to meet their immediate needs. NAG will closely coordinate with authorities, humanitarian organizations and local community based organizations to make sure all affected people receive the assistance,” said Khin Pyait Wonn Thaw Tar from Telenor Myanmar’s Corporate Responsibility team.

Additionally, Telenor will also provide family and shelter kits to up to 2000 affected households. The family kit contains essential items such as blankets, mosquito nets, clothes, kitchen utensils and the shelter kit contains tarpaulin sheets, nylon ropes, steel ropes, knifes and hatchets.

As an initial response to floods in Rakhine Telenor Myanmar on 8th July provided MMK 500 free credit to its subscribers in flood-affected Minbya, Kyauktaw and Mrauk-U townships in order to help facilitate communication with their family, relatives and friends.
