Telenor’s new promotion introduces lowest voice and data rates

  • Super Zee Kwat offers 1 Kyat/minute, 1 Kyat/Mb, from 11pm to 7am

December 18, 2015, Yangon – Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) today announced a new promotion – Super Zee Kwat - offering customers rates as low as 1 Kyat per Mb for data and 1 Kyat per minute for voice calls on Telenor’s network, when they surf or talk between 11pm and 7am daily.

Super Zee Kwat will be made available in monthly packs at 2500 Kyat, and weekly packs at 800 Kyat, with a validity of 30 days and 7 days respectively. Customers can subscribe to the monthly pack by texting ‘T2500’ to 500 or by dialing *802#, and the weekly pack by texting ‘T800’ to 500 or by dialing *803#. Packs may also be purchased at any Telenor point-of-sale.

This promotion will be available from December 18th, 2015 until January 31st, 2016.

Super Zee Kwat underscores the company’s commitment to delivering the most affordable rates for mass market customers in Myanmar, says Chief Executive Officer Petter Furberg. “Customers in Myanmar continue to demand exciting voice and data offers and services. Data in particular has seen tremendous usage growth, and we estimate that more than 60% of subscribers in the country are smartphone users. Within our own base of more than 12 million subscribers, 57% are active data users – the second highest among Telenor markets in Asia, behind only Malaysia,” he added.

“While the telecoms sector in Myanmar is relatively young, we observe that customers have significantly grown in sophistication, and continue to look for value and diversity in their preferred service provider, and this makes dynamic pricing mechanisms highly relevant today. In this respect, Telenor customers can expect that we will continue to deliver the most exciting and innovative product offerings in the market, that best suit their usage and needs,” Furberg added.

The largest 3G network in Myanmar

Telenor today operates the largest 3G network in Myanmar, with more than 4,000 3G-enabled sites throughout the country. In Yangon, the company has deployed more than 1,000 sites from 348 at the launch in October 2014, while in Mandalay it now has more than 700 sites, from 70 at the point of launch in September 2014. Telenor’s network today covers 60% of population and townships in Myanmar, and it has more than 55,000 points-of-sales (POS) across the country. The network currently covers all major States and divisions in Myanmar with the exception of Chin state, where launch is imminent.
