Online, Facebook channels for SIM registration with Telenor
Complements physical and SMS checks
2nd October, 2016, Yangon – Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) has launched multiple online self-care channels – website, Telenor Myanmar mobile app, Facebook and Viber – to help customers register their SIM cards at their convenience.
Access to these online solutions are available via http://ecaf.telenor.com.mm, on any mobile or WiFi data network. To register through the mobile app, customers may download the ‘My Telenor’ app from http://bit.ly/mytelenorv24 for both Android and Apple devices. Customers may now register their SIMs via Telenor’s social media channels – Telenor Myanmar Facebook and Viber - by sending a direct message or by visiting a registration link.
These newly available online self-care registration options will complement existing registration services available at Telenor’s designated points-of-sale and branded shops in all of Myanmar’s states and regions, and SMS-based checks. With these options Telenor becomes the first operator offering both multiple online and physical SIM registration channels.
Prior to this, Telenor has made SIM registration services available at 20,000 designed points-of-sale and close to 90 branded shops, where customers may either check their SIM registration status or register their SIMs. Customers who wish to change SIM ownership status may do so at all branded shops.
Through its largest and fastest growing data and distribution network in Myanmar, Telenor serves more than 17 million customers nationwide. “Our priority is to help all of Telenor customers register their SIM cards in a convenient manner, and in order to achieve this we are providing multiple registration options. We are delightedly introducing self-registration and online channels as part of making registration process much simpler and easier,” said Lars Erik Tellmann, Chief Executive Officer of Telenor.
SIM registration is a requirement mandated by law, and the Ministry of Transport and Communications recently announced that all mobile SIM cards are to be registered by 31st March 2017. To register, subscribers are required to provide a copy of their national registration card (passport for foreigners) or other applicable identity cards, and to fill up a simple customer acquisition form. The process may be completed within minutes, at no charge. For online self-care registration front and rear photocopies of a valid identity document, and a passport size photo are required. Online self-care registration services are free and available round the clock.
To date, Telenor has introduced multiple channels to customers for checking their SIM card registration status. Customers may check their SIM registration status by dialling *979*3*3#; or by visiting any of Telenor’s close to 90 branded shops and designated points-of-sale, by calling Telenor’s Call Center, or by sending ‘REG’ to “500”.
Telenor customers will continue to receive ongoing information on SIM registration, through public announcements, social media, and via SMS where related.
