Handover ceremony of the auction generated benefits to myME

  • MMK 3,183 lakhs (318.3million) was channelled to myME by bidders


March 14, 2016, Thahton – Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) today organized a donation handover ceremony in between the bidders of the first Telenor auction and Myanmar Mobile Education (myME) at Telenor House.

As announced before, the auction generated benefits of MMK 3,183 lakhs (318.3 million) was today channeled to fund digital education efforts by Myanmar Mobile Education’s (myME) in 2016.

“We are proud of partnering with myME for one of our CR activities to support underprivileged children of the country. We are thrilled at the support received for this initiative, and deeply thank all who came to bid and raise funds for a very worthy cause. While we recognise the appeal of owning special numbers, it is clear that many were inspired by the opportunity to support our education program for underprivileged and poor children,” said Petter Furberg, Chief Executive Officer at Telenor Myanmar.

Telenor held its first auction on 25th February, 2016 with the reserve price of MMK 3 million per number. The auction netted a total of MMK 4,835 lakhs (483.5 million), from 55 special mobile numbers. The highest single bid of the day was received for 0977 7777777, sold for MMK 1,120 lakhs (112 million).
