May 25, 2016, Yangon – Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) will hold a grand finale of its Myanmar Karaoke contest on 29 May in search of the first champion. Fourteen finalists representing respective state and region will contest and the winner will receive a prize of MMK 20 million with a chance to produce a solo music album released by Telenor through its My Tune Music Portal.
On 29 May, the finalists, together with dancers and comedian groups, will take part in a series of entertainment programmes for the public from 9am to 4pm in 8 different locations in Yangon. A mini-concert will also be held from 11am to 1am in Junction Square. The grand final concert will be held in Rose Garden Hotel ballroom from 6pm onward. Entry is free for everyone interested and public can as well enjoy lucky draw programmes and display booths at the event.
At the concert, the Myanmar Karaoke champion will be chosen with 60 percent judges’ scores and 40 percent public voting. Judges are famous vocalists Tin Zar Maw, R Zar Ni and Phoe Kar. Public can vote from 6pm to 9pm during the Grand Finale. For Telenor subscribers voting can be via SMS (maximum of 5 votes per subscriber) and for non-subscribers through Telenor Myanmar Facebook page by clicking LIKE on the finalist’s profile.
“Supporting talent is a part and parcel of our business and we are now witnessing that this initiative is serving as a platform for Myanmar people to showcase their capabilities. As we move forward we expect to create more opportunities for talented people throughout the country,” said Joslin E Myrthong, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at Telenor Myanmar.
Telenor launched its first nationwide karaoke champion competition on March 14, 2016. Over 6000 enthusiasts from 28 cities across 13 regions and states, and Nay Pyi Taw participated in the contest, and submitted their songs recorded with the assistance of two Telenor-branded music trucks and recording booths set up in selected Telenor-branded shops.
Representatives from Gitameit and Telenor Myanmar shortlisted 50 candidates from each state and region. Top five candidates were then selected by the judges. Final candidates for each state/region were then chosen with public voting through Facebook and SMS, and scores given by the judges.
