(Yangon, 10.10.2014) Telenor has nominated ‘Bagan Keyboard’ to represent Myanmar in its Digital Winners Conference in Norway this month. The Myanmar App will compete with five other innovative businesses to win Best App in Asia.
‘Bagan Keyboard’ is developed by Bagan Innovation Technology and will compete with Apps from Malaysia, Thailand, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The winner, which will be announced at the conference in Oslo on 22 October, will receive a cash prize of 15 million Kyats (100,000 NOK).
‘Bagan Keyboard’ enables people in Myanmar to write in local language with ease on Android handsets. The App also aims to bridge the gap between the two current font standards, Zaqyi-One and Unicode, as Unicode supports more local Myanmar languages.
The App was made available on Google Play in May 2013 and has till date been downloaded more than 500,000 times. The App has an even wider reach through direct download or preloading from retail outlets.
Soe Khine Win, CTO of Bagan Innovation Technologies, said: “I am very excited to be chosen by Telenor to represent the Myanmar mobile application environment in Norway. I look forward to showcasing Bagan Keyboard to an influential audience and network with other entrepreneurs from both Asia and Europe.”
The Digital Winners Best App in Asia competition aims to recognise the exploding market of mobile connectivity and consumer App development in the Asia region.
The Digital Winners is an annual conference created by Telenor Group to recognize ICT innovators and entrepreneurs and gathers the Nordic region’s leaders and innovators in media, technology and communications. This year the event will also showcase innovators and entrepreneurs from selected Asian markets.
