Telenor Myanmar successfully delivered flood recovery assistance

  • Early recovery assistance of water and sanitation items, clean water and agricultural inputs have been delivered to more than 37,000 flood affected people in Kayin State and Bago region
  • Telenor Myanmar employees contributed additional 7.2 million Kyat and also volunteered personally in the activities

Telenor Myanmar in collaboration with its partner organization, Network Activities Group (NAG), have successfully provided recovery assistance to flood-affected households in in Shwegyin Township, Bago region and Hlaingbwe Township, Kayin State. Delivery process has been carried out since the last week of August after Telenor handed over 55 million Kyat to NAG for the early recovery assistance to the more than 37,000 flood-affected people in 51 villages.

In addition to the donation, Telenor Myanmar employees in those regions have also voluntarily reached out to the flood affected regions personally to provide critical support and much needed help. Telenor employees from the regional teams contributed supplementary 7.2 million Kyat and other household items for the people in the affected areas.

“With the help of NAG, we have distributed the most necessary items for the local flood-affected people such as water and sanitation items, cleaning water sources and agriculture inputs. Telenor Myanmar has always been saying, ‘be there for you’ to our customers and we have proved what it means. Not just by granting cash and deliverables but also our employees provided physical support in this initiative. I believe the contribution Telenor Myanmar and its employees had made would help the flood-affected people in rebuilding their property, livelihood and resilience aftermath this hard time” said Min Thu, Head of Business Sustainability of Telenor Myanmar.

Prior to the above assistance, Telenor has also introduced several initiatives which provided extra talk time and free data to all the Telenor customers in the flood-effected townships in order to be able to connect friends and family.

Telenor’s humanitarian relief support for disaster-affected communities including response to the flooding in Myanmar is initiated as part of its corporate responsibility programme. By partnering with NAG, a well-established humanitarian organization in Myanmar, Telenor secures access to professional knowhow and capabilities to ensure that our contribution reached areas of needs. Since 2015 to date, Telenor has provided more than 840 million Kyats in response to natural disasters in Myanmar and more than 145,000 people had been benefited.
