Won 6 global awards in 2017
Telenor Myanmar is pleased to announce that the company has been honoured with ‘Social Innovation Leadership’ award at the CMO Asia’s Asia Social Innovation Excellence Awards,presented in Singapore, on 2nd August. With this latest award, Telenor has now won 6 global awards in 2017 conferred by prestigious international organizations.
“We are delighted to accept this social innovation leadership award which is a recognition of our efforts in maximizing the impact of communication services by creating shared value for the society in Myanmar. Our corporate social responsibility (CR) initiatives in Myanmar are typically long term and showcase the use of connectivity for social good.Through developing interactive online digital literacy training materials, funding digital classrooms and innovative mobile apps, social innovation is at the heart of our CR activities.We remain committed to ensuring that people in all parts of the country continue to benefit from the socio-economic benefits that innovative mobile and digital access will bring to them,” said Min Thu, head of Business Sustainability at Telenor Myanmar.

Telenor’s corporate social responsibility initiatives in Myanmar
Telenor’s Corporate Responsibility initiatives include Telenor’s Light Houses for promoting digital literacy; Myanmar Mobile Education Project providing non-formal education to underprivileged children, humanitarian relief support for disaster-affected communities including response to the flooding in Myanmar, and mHealth for maternal and child health information app. Telenor also holds Special Numbers Auctions that act as a platform to generate donations for various social organizations, including orphanages. Additionally the companyis in the process of establishing ‘Tech Classroom’ as part of its new digital education project to enable education of underprivileged children especially in remote areas across Myanmar.
Global recognition in 2017
Telenor won ‘Emerging Market Service Provider of the Year’ and ‘Myanmar Mobile Service Provider of the Year’ awards at the 14th Frost & Sullivan's annual ICT Awards in July.GSMA conferred ‘Green Mobile Award’ to Telenor Myanmar and Ericsson in March for their joint pure solar power project. In May, Telecom Asia named Telenor Myanmar as the ‘Best Emerging Market Operator’ in Asia. Furthermore, Telenor Myanmar and Ericssonin June won the ‘Outstanding Mobile Contribution to the UN SDGs in Asia’ award conferred by GSMA for the same solar power project.
