The Minister of International Development and his delegation visited Telenor Myanmar office in Yangon
Minister Dag-Inge Ulstein for the Norwegian Ministry of International Development, visited Telenor Myanmar at its new office located at Sule Square in Yangon on 26th March 2019. The Minister was accompanied by H.E. Tone Tinnes, the Norwegian Ambassador to Myanmar and the delegation from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Norwegian Embassy to Myanmar.
During the visit, the delegation inspected Telenor’s new office where greeted by employees of Telenor Myanmar. As part of the agenda, Telenor Myanmar’s CEO, Mr Sharad Mehrotra and his team gave an update on Telenor’s growth across Asia, and its successful history in Myanmar. In addition, there was a special highlight on Telenor’s many sustainability initiatives, including Digital School where 100,000 students are trained annually, Safe Internet awareness campaigns and the Mobile Birth and Death Registration pilot project in Mon state. Minister Dag-Inge Ulstein also met and greeted two outstanding students that shared their experiences and benefits from attending the Digital School training programme.
The agenda was followed by the business meeting with some of the Norwegian companies with operations in Myanmar to get a better insight into their experience and to discuss social economic development in Myanmar.
The Minister of International Development was appointed early this year and currently responsible for international development efforts in countries outside the OSCE, the Middle East, North Africa and Afghanistan. Minister Dag-Inge Ulstein is also responsible for development cooperation under the auspices of the UN system, the World Bank, the regional development banks and other global funds and programmes with additions to Norad, Norec and Norfund.
